The British Museum in London's West End will launch a new exhibition this year exploring ancient Egyptian beliefs about life after death.

Journey through the Afterlife will open on November 4th 2010 and run until March 6th next year.

Visitors will be able to see a range of textual and visual material from the museum's collection of papyri from the Book of the Dead, a collection of spells used between 1600 BC and 100 AD that was thought to give the deceased eternal life after death.

One of the highlights of the exhibition will be the Greenfield papyrus, which at 37 metres is the longest Book of the Dead manuscript in the world.

The British Museum will also showcase famous paintings from the papyri of Ani and Hunefer, painted coffins, gilded masks, amulets and jewellery.

People planning a trip to the West End before October 10th this year can visit the museum to see the Akan drum, which is the oldest African-American object in the institute's collection.
