Nigel Lindsay to play Shrek in West End

Nigel Lindsay will play the title role in the forthcoming West End production of Shrek The Musical, it has been announced.

Also set to appear in the show is Nigel Harman of EastEnders fame, who will be playing villain of the piece Lord Farquaad.

Lindsay most recently starred as Charlie in Sucker Punch at the Royal Court and boasts many other stage and screen credits, while Harman has appeared in Three Days of Rain at the Apollo, Guys and Dolls at the Piccadilly Theatre and other productions.

The two actors join previously announced cast members Amanda Holden and Richard Blackwood, who will play Princess Fiona and Donkey in Shrek The Musical.

Producers Bill Damaschke and Caro Newling said: "We were already thrilled that our dream of bringing Shrek The Musical to London was coming true, but to do so with a cast led by these charming, funny and incredibly talented actors has exceeded our expectations."

Tickets for the show will go on sale on October 1st 2010 ahead of the official opening at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in May 2011.
