West End debut for Flashdance - The Musical this autumn

Flashdance - The Musical will be making a spectacular entrance on to the West End stage later this year.

Set in Pittsburgh, the production, which follows the life of 18-year-old welder and 'flashdancer' Alex, will debut at Shaftesbury Theatre in September.

Alex's dream is win a place at the world renowned Shipley Dance Company and she practises his passion every evening after work.

Former Strictly Come Dancing judge Arlene Phillips is behind the musical's choreography, with the production based on the original Paramount Pictures film.

Among Flashdance's highlights is its score, which features Academy Award winning title track Flashdance - What a Feeling and smash hits Maniac, Manhunt and Gloria. A further ten tunes songs have been written especially for the production.

Alex is played by Victoria Hamilton-Barritt, whose West End credits include Mamma Mia and Fame. She has also toured the UK playing the lead role of Stephanie Mungano in Saturday Night Fever.
