The National Portrait Gallery in London's West End is to host an exhibition to celebrate the achievements of 20th century classical music in Britain.
Great British Composers: From Elgar to Ades is set to run at the venue, which is situated in the world-famous Trafalgar Square, from April 27th to December 5th.
Visitors to the event will be able to see more than 30 photographs documenting the careers of some "renowned" British composers including Edward Elgar, Frederick Delius, William Walton and Ralph Vaughan Williams.
The exhibition begins with Elgar, who according to the gallery "has links with nineteenth century Romanticism", before moving on to more recent composers including Harrison Birtwistle, Mark-Anthony Turnage and Thomas Ades.
Organisers of the event have scheduled the opening to coincide with the BBC Proms, an annual festival of music celebration.
"The twentieth century saw remarkable achievements in classical music in Britain. This display comprises over thirty photographs of renowned British composers who, collectively, define a great modern tradition," they said.
