A new show based on the life of Anna Nicole Smith is to open in the West End next year.

The show, which is to be written by Jerry Springer The Opera co-creator Richard Thomas, will premiere at the iconic Royal Opera House on February 17th 2011.

American glamour model Smith worked as a stripper before starring in Hollywood movies and her own reality TV show before her sudden death in 2007.

The actress hit the headlines many times, perhaps most notoriously for her marriage to an elderly oil tycoon and the subsequent battle for a share in the estate after his death.

Richard Jones is set to direct the production, which will see Antonio Pappano conduct Dutch soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek in the title role.

The show is just one of many that are set to delight West End crowds next year as the UK premiere of Agostino Steffani's Niobe and a new production of Rimsky-Korsakov's The Tsar's Bride are also set to run at the Royal Opera House.
