The Elephant Parade at Selfridges
Sat, 01 May 2010 until Thu, 01 July 2010
Life-size elephants hand-painted
This Summer, Elephant Family, the only charity solely dedicated to ensuring the survival of the Asian elephant, is teaming up with Britain’s leading art and design luminaries to launch London’s biggest ever outdoor art event, which will see the capital taken over by 260 elephants. The parade will feature life-size elephants hand-painted by an assortment of established and emerging talent from the art and design world, including Marc Quinn, Diane Von Furstenberg and Lulu Guinness. These elephants, destined to become highly collectible works of art, will grace London landmarks, including Buckingham Palace, Parliament Square and the South Bank, from May to July, turning the capital into an urban jungle. They will then be herded together in one of London’s great green spaces for a magnificent exhibition, open to the public.
After going on display to the public they will be auctioned by Sothebys at a glittering event, which aims to raise over £1 million, benefiting more than 15 UK conservation charities working in Asia.
Selfridges will be selling miniature versions of 75 of the elephant designs, although all are available to order in store until the end of July. Selfridges will also be one of the key destinations featuring a selection of the life size key designed elephants in store.
